Why Pierre Jeanneret Has Become a Favourite of the Art Collector Community

Have you ever noticed how art collectors also seem to love collecting furniture? Indeed, quite a number of collector homes feature Pierre Jeanneret chairs, a special favourite. These mid-century designer beauties can look simply amazing paired with artists, as such as Christopher Wool, Ellsworth Kelly and Steven Parrino, to name a few. With their iconic thick, tapered lines and sharp angles in natural tones, the chairs work well both as a compliment to an art collection and as a focal point themselves. As big fans of Pierre Jeanneret, and in collaboration with SRELLE, we present some of our favourite interiors featuring Jeanneret chairs.

Here, two Pierre Jeanneret Easy Lounge Chairs steal the show in the home office of celebrity and collector Kourtney Kardashian, as designed by interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard. On the back wall are photographs by Cheyenne Randall and Harry Benson. The “Batman” piece is by Herb Ritts, the pink artwork by Curtis Kulig and the backward “B” by Ellsworth Kelly.

Gazing down upon a Jeanneret Office Chair, the colourful Rob Pruitt painting lightens the mood in this take on the minimalist movement.

Welcome to the Parisian home of fashion retail power couple Thierry Gillier and Cecilia Bönström. Here, the tones of the natural wood used in crafting Pierre Jeanneret chairs adds another layer to the serene neutral palette of this design. The artwork on the left is Christopher Wool’s “Untitled” (2006).

As true fans of Pierre Jeanneret, Gillier and Bönström have also added these Committee Chairs to their collection. The sleek, smooth design pairs well with the textured artwork “Death in America #2” (2005) by Steven Parrino.

A lone Jeanneret Kangaroo Chair fits perfectly into this contemporary art collection. Never one to fade into the background, its surprisingly contemporary design holds its own against the unique coffee tables and impressive artworks.

While in dialogue with other mid-century masters like Charlotte Perriand, the Pierre Jeanneret chair collection cannot be overlooked. Moderating this meeting of collectible design from the back wall is Christopher Wool’s “Untitled” (1998).
