COLLECTING ART TODAY EDM Lead Image - 1

What will you learn joining Sotheby’s Institute of Art and LARRY’S LIST for our up-coming in-person course on collecting— Collecting Art Today— happening in Hong Kong during art week this March?

The world of art collecting is evolving at an unprecedented pace, with global art fairs and almost daily auctions offering endless opportunities while the collector scene in Asia is flourishing. In recognition of these changing dynamics and the importance of the role of the collector in the art ecosystem, we are bringing together internationally renowned collectors, art entrepreneurs and private museum founders hailing from Bangkok, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Manila and beyond to give their perspectives on today’s art collecting scene. Led by LARRY’S LIST co-founder Christoph Noe, expect four days of non-stop interaction and exposure to all aspects of the Asian art market as you explore the private art collector scene and private museum landscape.

Here, LARRY’S LIST presents a preview of the program:

Day 1:
Hear from a world-renowned vineyard owner and Top 200 art collector Allan Warburg on presenting works in open spaces; learn how to create a global artistic dialogue in exhibitions from a celebrated curator; and receive insights into the difference between non-profit and commercial galleries globally with a gallery founder balancing both.

Day 2:
Take a private tour at one of Asia’s most prominent art museums, M+; learn how to create a queue and take over the internet from a creative director and collector renowned for making art go viral; and explore the responsibilities of a private art foundation in developing the art ecosystem. Finish the day forging art world connections at an exclusive Sotheby’s Institute of Art alumni event.

Day 3:
Examine the importance of location selection for displaying art works through macro- and micro-cultural analysis with Desire Feuerle, founder of Berlin’s The Feuerle Collecion; hear from the director of an Asian museum on undertaking a historical global partnership and how this can enhance creativity in the field; delve into how private collectors can support and interact with public institutions; and learn about the motivations behind collecting the seemingly non-collectable from collector Wiyu Wahono. Use your evening to explore major and hidden gallery openings all over town.

Day 4:
Discover how collecting art can be a family journey and the importance of sustaining multi-generational art collections from Jongsuwat Angsuvarnsiri, managing director of SAC Gallery in Bangkok; examine the dynamics of the Asian art market and art collecting scene with an eminent art entrepreneur; and finish the course with a private tour of the innovative art, culture and lifestyle venue K11 Musea.

Join us in Hong Kong starting March 23 and elevate your expertise, broaden your network, and gain unparalleled insights from industry leaders as you take the next step on your art collecting journey.
