For this week’s Art021 Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair, Shanghai Biennale and dozens of gallery openings, LARRY’S LIST has selected 6 unmissable events to make you book your trip right now!

 

1.  Art021 Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair
The 4th edition of the fair will be held at the Shanghai Exhibition Center. ART021 this year consists of three major sections: “Main Galleries”, “Approach” and “Beyond” Public Projects, with an exhibition space expanded to over 10,000 m2. Avid Chinese collectors Kelly Ying, David Chau and Bao Yifeng, who co-founded the fair in 2013, will be there to meet you.

2.  Opening of Martin Creed’s Solo Show @Qiao Space
Qiao Space, a private exhibition space set up by Chinese mega collector Qiao Zhibing, is in collaboration with leading international gallery Hauser & Wirth to present “Understanding” – the first solo show of British artist Martin Creed in China. The art showcased in the exhibition highlights the Turner-Prize winner’s playful spirit and innovative approach to a broad range of materials and his ongoing fascination with the commonplace – that is to say, the opening will certainly to draw an interesting art crowd.

3.  Collection Exhibition of Huina @M50
Cai Guoqiang, Guo Xi, Liu Wei, Sun Xun, Wang Jianwei, Xu Bing, Yang Xinguang, Zhang Enli – these wide range of artists’ works can be seen at the exhibition of the collection of Li Huina, a young Chinese art collector born in the 1980s, at M50.

4.  After-Party “Shanghai Night · Squad Action”, hosted by Qiao Zhibing
Haven’t got the chance to speak to the collectors at the opening at Qiao Space? Be sure to catch up the crowd at “Shanghai Night · Squad Action”, an after party held by Shanghai-based collector Qiao Zhibing. Global art friends are invited to enjoy a sense of futuristic aesthetics. With starring highlights including Turner-Prize winner Martin Creed, Madonna’s appointed dancing group “Next Level Squad”, music artist Shackup and visual artist FEI, the organizer wants you “to experience the great energy from arts that surpass reality”.

5.  Opening of Group Show, by Hans Ulrich Obrist x chi K11 art museum
The chi K11 art museum is one of the leading art spaces in Shanghai established by K11 Art Foundation, which was founded by Hong Kong collector and arts patron Adrian Cheng. K11 Art Foundation has invited the star curator HUO, representing the Serpentine Galleries, to present “HACK SPACE” – a group exhibition with artists including Simon Denny, aaajiao, Cao Fei, Cui Jie, Guo Xi, Hu Qingtai, Firenze Lai, Li Liao, Liang Shuo, Tao Hui, Xu Qu, Zhai Liang. Concurrently, there will be the opening of two other exhibitions at chi K11 museum: “Guan Xiao: Elastic Sleep” (in partnership with ICA, London); and “Neïl Beloufa: Soft(a)ware”.

6.  Exhibition “To Break the Rules, You Must First Master Them” @YUZ Museum x Audemars Piguet, featuring Chinese artist Cheng Ran
YUZ Museum in Shanghai is presenting an exhibition in collaboration with Swiss luxury watch manufacturer Audemars Piguet. The exhibition will incorporate the work of artists with whom the brand has been collaborating over the past couple of years, including Dan Holdsworth’s photographs and Alexandre Joly’s sound piece “Wild Constellations.” The exhibition will also showcase a new video work by Chinese artist Cheng Ran, representing his own interpretation of Audemars Piguet’s home in the Jura Mountains.
